Strategic Command: American Civil War comes with a massive 66,000 hex map covering all of North America from Canada and New Mexico to the Caribbean on a 15 km/9 mile scale. This is the largest hexagonal map ever offered in the Strategic Command series!
MANAGE YOUR ARMIES
Since there were few professional soldiers ready for battle at the beginning of 1861, the creation of an army would be no less important than the order to enter the battle. Thousands of volunteers are signing up for the army and you will need to organize them into brigades, divisions and eventually corps. Research will need to be done to improve their weaponry and combat skills. After completing the training, you will be able to choose from a variety of famous generals to command them, including Lee, Jackson, Grant, McClellan, Beauregard and Sherman. In conditions where the fate of entire armies depends on one battle, the appointment of talented generals can become a decisive factor between victory and defeat.
RIVER WARS
The great rivers of North America, including the Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland, can now be navigated by brand new riverine warships, with inland ports providing fast travel and amphibious attack dangers.
THE AGE OF IRON SHIPS
The war on the high seas has also been expanded: now the ships are divided into river, coastal and sea, wooden and armored. With the most diverse roster of warships ever offered in a Strategic Command game, your admirals will have more options than ever before to achieve victory at sea.
INTELLIGENCE REWORKED
The fog of war has never been more important in determining your success on the battlefield, as the lack of radio communications means that cavalry will play an important role in spotting enemy armies and avoiding ambushes. Infantry recon squads, guerrilla chasseurs and armored trains can also be trained to enhance your armies´ reconnaissance capabilities, while generals who wish to use experimental technology will have the option to use observation balloons, taking war to the skies.
EUROPEAN INTERVENTION
Diplomatic action, success on the battlefield, and events such as the sale of the Confederate cotton stock or the Emancipation Proclamation would determine whether the European Great Powers intervened in the Civil War. Britain, France, and Spain can be persuaded to support the cause of Confederation, and their intervention can significantly change the outcome of the war.
WAR IN MEXICO
As the Civil War divides the United States, French Emperor Napoleon III is fighting another battle for control of Mexico. The front lines in America´s southern neighborhood will constantly change, and if France enters the war, players will be able to take the flag of the Republic or the Empire, as the Civil War escalates into a conflict that will determine the fate of all of North America!
